Five Non-Rollercoasters Right Across From Your Hershey Hotel

We know your type: You love theme parks, but can't abide roller coasters. Not the loop-de-loop variety, nor the up-and-down variety, not metal or wooden... not even the kiddie coasters. We get it. You're not a fan. And when your Hershey hotel is right across the street from Hersheypark, you might be tempted to visit. But you want to make sure you get your money's worth.

Not to worry. Plenty of rides are out there, just waiting to be ridden by the coaster-averse. And when it's time to head out the doors of your Hershey hotel and brave the amusements, here are the rides you'll want to aim for.

Coal Cracker. OK, so we cheated a little bit -- the coal cracker is a water flume, essentially a roller coaster on water. But without loops, and with a cooling factor that a terrifying roller coaster might not provide. Think of it as an extremely thrilling dip in the pool.

Ferris Wheel. Who could forget the classics? Hersheypark's ferris wheel towers 100 feet in the air -- high enough to offer a breathtaking view of the park (and much of Hershey, the hotel you're staying at included), but not so high as to induced vertigo.

Monorail. For those who require a ride no more thrilling than a trip on the local subway, we offer... an elevated subway. The Hersheypark monorail offers a tour of the entire park, but you can also see ZooAmerica and downtown Hershey. And the hotel of your dreams is right across the street.

Merry Derry Dip. Grab your burlap sack and head up the stairs. This fun slide is like a roller coaster, but substantially more sedate. It's classified as a "low to medium" thrill ride, but three camelback humps offer a belly rush you won't soon forget.

Kissing Tower. Hersheypark's most distinctive ride. An enclosed cabin climbs 250 feet in the air as it rotates clockwise, offering a full view of the entire city. Oh, and the windows are shaped like Hershey's kisses. Cute!

So when you're staying at your favorite Hershey hotel, don't think that a trip to Hersheypark has to involve half a day spent on roller coasters. There are plenty of rides available for the more sedate-hearted.
