Finding a Pet-Friendly Hotel in Hershey (or Anywhere Else!)

Imagine the scene: You’ve planned every aspect of your vacation down to the last meal. Your route is mapped out, you’ve made reservations at every hotel you’ll need to stay in along the way, and you’ve hired the kid next door to feed the family dog and keep him company.

Then you get the call: The kid next door has just won two cruise tickets on a call-in radio contest. The boat leaves tomorrow.

Time to start looking for a pet-friendly hotel.

Wherever you’re going – whether it’s Pittsburgh, Lancaster or Hershey – a pet-friendly hotel is always a better bet than just sneaking your dog into a hotel that doesn’t accept pets. A pet-friendly hotel won’t kick you out if they find out you’ve been harboring an extra canine or feline guest – in fact, they’ll welcome every member of your family with open arms.

(Of course, your best bet for a pet-friendly hotel in Hershey is the Days Inn Hershey – convenient to Hersheypark, Hershey’s Chocolate World and a host of other local attractions. But we’ll get back to that at the end of the article.)

When traveling to a pet-friendly hotel, keep these tips in mind:

  • Part of the reason pet-friendly hotels continue to exist is because most pet owners are so considerate. Be sure to keep your pet quiet during nighttime hours (and during daytime hours) and keep him crated during the times when you’re out, particularly if you think he’s likely to make a mess. Some dogs get nervous in strange surroundings.
  • Bring familiar toys for your dog or cat. Travel can be stressful for animals, and any little bit of home can go a long way toward putting your pet’s mind at ease.
  • Taking your dog to a pet-friendly hotel in Hershey is a great idea – but keep his road snacks chocolate-free. Your dog might look like he wants to eat all the Hershey’s Chocolate in the world, but just one drop is enough to make him sick. Stick to milk-bones.
  • Give your pet a little more attention than usual when vacationing – the strange surroundings may put him ill at ease, and a little more TLC will help him feel more comfortable.
  • Keep your pet on a leash at all times. Putting up lost-dog posters in your neighborhood is hard enough; doing it in a strange town is near impossible.
