So, apparently the directors of this year’s convention are big fans of the cacao seed, because they’ve decided to hold the convention in Hershey, PA. Accomodations are easy enough to come by; the Days Inn Hershey is the best hotel near Hershey Park, and it’s in throwing distance of several other Hershey attractions.
But what is there to do in Hershey besides Hershey Park? When you’re <a href=>meeting in Hershey, what can you do during your off-hours if you don’t have the time (or digestive fortitude) to ride the Superdooperlooper?
Fear not, chocodile. There are plenty of options:
The Hershey Bears. One of the American Hockey League’s longest-lived teams, the Bears play at GIANT Center, a mile from the Days Inn Hershey. The Bears are tied with the Cleveland Barons for the most wins of the Calder Cup, the AHL’s top prize, makng them one of the winningest teams in the league. Seeing the Bears play is sort of like watching the Yankees, only with less Steinbrenner and more chocolate.
The Chocolate Spa. OK, some word association here: What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the words “whipped cocoa bath?” How about “chocolate hydrotherapy?” Or “strawberry parfait scrub,” or “cocoa massage?” Is it “Sign me up?” Yeah, we thought so. The Chocolate Spa is just a short drive from Hershey Park and the Days Inn. Grab a towel.
The Hershey Trolley Works. After a stressful meeting, Hershey is the perfect place to soothe your weary nerves. And there’s no better way to see the town than from a vintage trolley guided by a singing conductor. Yeah, that’s right: They sing. For added fun, see if they’ll take requests.
ZooAmerica. Maybe you’re an animal lover. Maybe you searched far and wide to find a pet friendly hotel in Hershey so you could bring your Bichon Frise to the convention with you. Don’t worry – just because Hershey is a small city doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck in the hotel room watching Meerkat Manor. ZooAmerica cares for a wide variety of animals both exotic and native to Pennsylvania.
Hershey’s Chocolate World. What, you thought we’d forget to mention Hershey’s claim to fame? Hershey’s Chocolate World features the Great American Chocolate Tour, where visitors can learn all about how dessert engineers make their favorite candy bars. It’s an interactive, cocoa-scented dreamland.
